Can aquarium heaters damage fake plants that are touching it?
Hi, I just bought a small 25 watt heater for my 5 gallon tank with tetras. The only hidden and nice place to put it is in the corner, but my leafy fake plant will be touching it. Just a few tips of the leaves will touch. Is this ok? I have water circulation with the filter. Thanks ![]()
There should be no damage to your heater at all to the plastic plants. In fact, algae eaters often sleep attached to the heater, probably because they like its warmth.
In the future, however, I’d suggest that you get rid of any fake ornaments in the aquarium. Fake plants confuse fish and scratch their natural slime coating, which is like our skin for stopping diseases. When fish get scared, they’ll often try to hide in the plastic plants, scratching their coat and scaring and confusing them even more.
Real plants, on the other hand are great for an aquarium. They’re more beautiful and they can make the water healthier and more breathable for the fish. In some cases, such as with black mollies, they can even provide an alternate food source for the fish.
no, it will not hurt the plant or heater

yes, it will be fine. the heater will not get so hot that it will burn/melt the plant or hurt any of your fish. its not designed for killing.
