Can i make my aquarium heater more energy efficient by only using it at night, then unplugging during the day?
No, the change in temperature is not good for your fish. They need a constant temp, or they most likely will get sick and die. I don’t know how big your tank is, but unless it’s a huge one, your heater probably isn’t drawing that much energy anyway.
no by doing this you aquarium will drop in temperature to much, the heaters are energy efficent in themselves any way, they only work wen the tank turn to cold or below the temperature required.

No leave it on. It only should come on when the temp drops. If it is running a lot during the day and you turn it off you are going to get a big drop in temp. I think any more than a 4degree change is not good. For those that think the tank must stay say 79 that is fine so when the tank does drop that odd day the fish suffer. For those that have a tank temp that fluctuates when something does go wrong the fish are more prepared to Handel it.
