Do aquarium heaters contain mercury?

I have an aquarium heater in my fish tank and I would like to know whether aquarium heater’s contain any mercury within them.

Modern Aquarium Heaters do not use mercury – the switching mechanism is a bimetalic bar which curls one way when hot – and switches off the heater, and curls the other way when cold and switches on the heater. These movements are very small and well calibrated. No mercury is used.

    NO, why would they?

They contain Nickel/chrome wire, plastic, ceramic, copper and glass. They are about as dangerous to the enviroment as a toaster.
