What is the best aquarium heater?
i have 2 fish tanks. both have heaters in them that make the tank hot. i put one as low as it can go and then it was still 85 degrees. this morning i saw that my fish was dead so i looked at the thermometer and it said it was 92 degrees!!!! whats kind of heater should i get? do i need one?
All Aquarium Heaters use very cheap thermostats made in taiwan. Reef keepers use industrial controllers to run heaters just because of this. I have about a dozen heaters in my closet that all have stuck thermostats. Why do I keep them? because i run them on my controller which turns them off and on .
Another trick with heaters is to get 2 much smaller than needed. This way if one gets stuck on it will not over heat your tank, if one dies the other will maintain a decent temperature for a while.

Well you need to make sure the watts on the heater are appropriate for the size of tank
Usually no more then 25 for 10 gallons and 50 for 20 and so on.
The right temperature for tropical is anywhere from 65-75 no more then 78!
Please check the wattage that will give you the answers

For a little less i would go with the aqua clear, they are very strong and acurate. Plus in my opinion they look appealing.

Sounds like you have one of the cheapo Asian heaters. They thermostats are not so great, and once the contacts get burnt they can stick in the "on" position, and cook your fish.
I have had a good run with the Jager heaters, they are German made and have better thermostats and stronger glass tubes. Yes they cost a bit more, but if it saves your fish it’s worth it.
