Aquarium lights are heating up the water too much? I have freshwater goldfish. What do I do?
Anyway to keep the lights? (maybe not on as much, and the aquarium cool?)
To cool an aquarium, take off any glass lids. This allows for more evaporation which cools the water. If this is not enough cooling get a clip on fan to blow across the surface of the water.
Reef Keepers that use very hot metal halides can get away without needing a chiller just by taking off the lids and using fans.
Taking off any lids will also increase the amount of oxygen in the tank as well.
What are those aquarium lights called that make your fish look more colorful?
I only keep my light on for about 8hrs a day.=)

Get a smaller wattage bulb.

Leave the lights off for more time.

get a low wattage light bulb or just turn the light on when you need it.

first, whats too much? Whats the temp? Goldfish are pretty hearty fish, and can handle temps to 84 degrees. If a new low wattage bulb isn't possible, Wrap the bulb with black electric tape like a candy cane and it will lower the temp.

i thought mine doing this was a problem because it made tank up to 25 degrees c but its not a problem, the local pet store said they can have temps up to 30degrees c
if its under that and the fish are happy i would leave it

you are only suppose to keep your light on during the day when the sun is up and turn it off during the night. if it is getting too heated then even after doing that then you need to get a lower wattage bulb. you need to leave it off longer but it still needs light so dont always leave it off.
