Do fish need to have the aquarium lights turned off during the night?

Is turning off the lights necessary for them to rest? I have a 55 gallon aquarium and I leave 1 of the 2 lights on during the night. would the light interfere with thier resting or in another way?It doesn’t seem like it affects them but maybe im wrong.

Fish need a rest period just like every other creature. Leaving the light on just promotes algae growth.

the only thing that the light does is add to the pH balance and cause algae.

you should turn them all off during the night.
the sun doesn’t stay up all day and night, and everything rests (they may not sleep but they rest).
