Instead of getting 1 powerful light, can you get 2 weaker lights instead for growing aquarium plants?

Example: Instead of using a 120 watt lamp for my 120 gallon tank, can I just use two 60 watt lamps?

Yep. Overall the tank would still be getting 120w. There are bulbs designed to encourage plant growth in tanks, seek out these ones.

    Light is essential requirement for plants, fish will be happy in normal room light, so when deciding on light care for plants first.

    This usually does not work out well. The old rule of thumb use to be so many watts per gal. One 120 watt will punch more light down lower in the tank. So if you have any small/young plants on the bottom of the tank they may not get enough light.
