What kind of timer do you use for your aquarium lights?
Mechanical? Digital? Any brands you recommend?
I just use cheap standard(analog) household timers. If you use moonlighting or high wattage, high output lights you may want to invest in a digital timer-powerstrip that can control two or more lights independently.
when should i turn on my freshwater aquarium lights for my 10 gallon tank.(only one tone of color)?
all i use is a normal desk light, it dioesnt really matter as long as the fish gets light… but no sunlight it causes algae

You don’t need a timer, if you are going to be there at night when you turn the lights off, and in the morning when the lights go on, it is just a waste of money to buy them if you can already do it yourself. Just turn them on in the morning, and off at night. Make sure they get 8-12 hours of light.

Any standard wall-socket timer will work for your lights, but they aren’t necessary. If you have live plants in the tank, consistent light regimes are much more important for optimal health, and your fish will probably appreciate a reliable light cycle of 8-10 hours of light per day. In general, the more you can approximate the natural environment from which plants and animals come from, the happier and more vibrant your aquarium species will be.
