Its ridiculous! mercury vapor bulbs cost $80! I could buy an entire aquarium kit with that money! I love reptiles but I cant afford to keep them much longer. I am sure I am not the only one that has said that. Why does the price keep going up? It probably only costs them $5 to make a mercury vapor bulb! I am outraged
They charge more because they can get away with it… Same with wedding related items. Tack the name on it and they triple the price… There are ways around it however…
You can buy special "reptile" coconut bedding, or you can find coconut coir from garden stores for a third the price.
You never know what you will find at home improvement stores… I use PVC pipe and terra cotta flower pots for reptile hides, and you can get heat lamps much cheaper there too.
For specialty reptile supplies, getting them from a place like LLLReptile.com or other online stores is much cheaper than pet stores. Mercury vapor bulbs are about 40 bucks on that site. Still "expensive," but pretty much the cheapest you can get them. When you consider the cost of a fluorescent UV bulb, and a separate heat light, it’s not much more expensive than that… Plus the quality and quantity of UVB is much better in MVB’s

I have a a 20 gallon tank with 3 guppies 2 platties and 5 neons and a pleco I am planning to buy 3 angelfish. But last year I buy 2 angelfish and they die in 1 week ago the water is very cold so I am planning to buy a heater. but there is no heaters on the petstore there are only box filter even in malls there are Aquarium Supplies but there are no heaters where can I buy a aquarium heater?
You could try ebay. That’s where I usually go.. or post an add on craigslist

You can put freshwater shrimp or clams in there with them. There’s quite a few varieties of colorful freshwater shrimp. This site sells them http://www.azgardens.com/c-19-the-shrimp-factory.aspx but you can get a good idea of what’s available out there.

What are some good plants for a 29 gallon aquarium? I want something colorful.. And what are the supplies I will need to run a fresh water aquarium? Thanks!
The best and easiest aquatic plants come in one colour, green. Avoid any plants with red leaves as they’ll need very high light levels, an average tank light won’t do!

The supply list can run pretty long! Do you have any equipment already? The basics, not including the basic stuff that often comes with a tank such as light, sometimes a filter is also already built in, include:
*Filter (if there’s not already one in there - external filters are the best kind)
*Heater
*Thermometer
*Dechlorinator/Tap Safe
*2 fish nets
*2 clean buckets
*Gravel syphon
*Master Test Kit such as the one by API
Those are the basics anyway. You’ll want pure household ammonia to fishless cycle with too.

Hey, ok so i need a list (shopping list) of supplies i need for a crab tank. PS- all i have so far from my 29 gallon tank is a filter covers up to 10 gallons, ph 7.0, stress zyme, stress coat, ph up and down. Thanks. one more thing dont forget the best size of tank and amount of crabs. also im thinking fiddler or red claw crabs. THANKS
make sure the top of the tank is closed all the time i had a shrimp (like a crab) it climbed up the filter and fell out on the floor i found it dead when i was cleaning my house
