what does the term "water column" mean with saltwater aquariums?

Iv heard it used a couple times and was wondering what it was.

The aquarium business uses many terms loosely and it can mean different things depending on who your talking too. My guess would be one of two things, either where a certain type of fish feeds whether a top, middle or bottom feeder, or the depth of the aquarium in reference to placement of corals and lighting.

What is the best filtration for a 125 gallon aquarium? (Saltwater)?

water column usually refers to water in column(vertical pipe); it is express in inches or feet….1 ft WC =0.433 pound per square inch (PSI)… yes the level (hight not area)of the water will effect the pressure of the tank…. as the water level is lowering…the pressure also lowering.

Hope this makes some sort of sense
